How the index works: sources and order
The sources of these facts
- Information about area codes and toll-free prefixes comes from public reports published by NANPA, the North American Numbering Plan Administrator. Those sources are the area code report, rate-centre report and area code exhaust projections. Every area-code page lists the source file used to build it. You are not on an official NANPA site.
- Provider prices: taken from the pricing page each provider publishes. In a provider table, each row links to the page where that price appears.
- For seller prices, the source is the website of each seller. It lists the lowest price shown, plus the fees it publishes for parking a number, forwarding it or moving it.
- Owning and moving numbers: governed by the FCC rules in 47 CFR Part 52, which you can find on the official eCFR site.
Working out first-year cost
First-year cost is the price of twelve months of the cheapest plan a provider offers that includes a phone number, for one user. It uses whichever of the monthly and the annual price is lower, then adds any one-time number or activation fee listed on the pricing page. Taxes and regulatory fees stay out of the calculation, since they change with where you live. Free apps are listed at $0, with a note about what free includes.
If a provider publishes no price, we leave it out of the tables and name it in the notes instead of guessing.
How each list is ordered
- Providers: first-year cost, lowest first.
- Sellers: lowest listed price, lowest first.
- Area codes are sorted by the year a code entered service, with the oldest at the top.
No order on any list depends on referral fees. Neither a seller nor a provider can buy a spot on a list.
How the tools handle your input
Each tool works right in your browser. Neither the text you enter nor the numbers you enter reach this site or anyone else. For the little the site does record, see the privacy page.
When a problem shows up
Prices do change. Report any figure here that a provider's or seller's own page no longer matches to contact@phonenumbermarketplace.com; it will be verified against the source and corrected.
