1. 1947: 313 split off from 313, serving Detroit.
2. 1947: 517 was one of the original 1947 area codes, covering Addison, Adrian and Albion.
3. 1947: 616 was one of the original 1947 area codes, covering Ada, Allendale and Alto.
4. In 1961, a new area code, 906, opened to serve Alston, Amasa and Au Train.
5. 1993: 810 was created from 313, serving Algonac, Almont and Applegate.
6. 1997: 248 was created from 810, serving Auburn Heights, Birmingham and Clarkston.
7. 1997: 734 was created from 313, serving Ann Arbor, Belleville and Carleton.
8. 1999: 231 was created from 616, serving Alanson, Alba and Alden.
9. 2001: 989 was created from 517, serving Akron, Alger and Alma.
10. 2001: 586 was created from 810, serving Armada, Center Line and Mount Clemens.
